BERNMOBIL power study

BERNMOBIL, the public transport operator for the city of Bern, Switzerland, has commissioned ENOTRAC to model and simulate Bern’s tram and trolleybus network. The modelling work will assist BERNMOBIL with the future assessment of network requirements. The model is based on ENOTRAC’s simulator, FABEL, and has already been used in diverse projects for BERNMOBIL, including:

  • Assessment of power supply quality
  • Optimisation of power supply network
  • Calculations of rectifier and feeder loadings
  • Assessment of new rectifier substation locations
  • Rating of overhead wires

Measurements on the BERNMOBIL network were carried out to validate the FABEL simulation results. Currents and voltages were measured on the track feeders of two rectifier substations over a long period of time and were then compared with simulation outputs.
